Oh brother

I don't like to brag, but I think that I am a pretty good mother. My boys are usually quite well behaved and polite; even Sammy says please and thank you rather consistently. We take them to fun places like the Children's Discovery Museum and the Brookfield Zoo. I spoil them with what some might say is too much praise and affection.

But today I had an experience that definitely knocked me down a few pegs. All parents are very proud when their children advance in something- up to the next level of swimming lessons, move up to the next tax bracket, move up to the next class. Well starting this past Monday, Sammy moved up into the Beginner room, which is the 2-year-old room. He is very happy in there and is having a great time.

Last week, before Sammy moved up, we got a flier sent home about Spirit Week at daycare. They do Spirit Week a couple times a year, and every time they do, one of the days is Pajama Day. I love Pajama Day because I find the boys to look especially cute in their pajamas. Well, today was Pajama Day. Sammy was very excited to wear his Thomas the Tank Engine Pajamas all day (he would never take them off if we didn't make him), and Benny was excited to wear his pjs too. So I got the boys into their pajamas and off to school they went.

First, I dropped Sammy off in his room. While he was getting settled, I noticed that none of the other kids in his class were wearing pajamas. I didn't think much of it because the younger kids don't always do everything in spirit week. Then I got Benny to his room and looked around and nobody was wearing pajamas in his room either! The assistant principal was in there and started laughing so hard she started to cry. It turns out that the flier announcing Spirit Week was for Sammy's old room that he was in before he moved up, not for the whole school. So my boys ended up being the only children in either of their classes wearing pajamas to school today.

All I could think as I pulled out of daycare this morning was ,"Aw man, I can only imagine what the other parents are thinking when they see my boys in their pajamas." To add insult to injury, my boss (whose son is in Benny's class) said to me when I got to work, "Hey what's the deal with your kids wearing pajamas to school today?" Awesome.

Oh No! I totally feel for you. Luckily, your first paragraph is so true. Case in point, this is obviously the school's fault!

That's hilarious. Thank you for sharing your less than perfect mothering moments - it's nice to know I'm not alone in contributing to the list of things my kids will tell their therapist about someday. =)
