Date Night

Approximately once a month, day care opens on a Saturday night for extended care. I really look forward to it because it is mine and Tim's only opportunity for alone time. Our plan was to go out to dinner and then go see Ocean's 13. I got to pick the restaurant, so naturally I chose FlatTop Grill. While we were waiting for our table I had a delightful pear margarita. Anyway, we were looking forward to going to the movie because we haven't seen a movie in the theater since Old School, which came out before we were married. Well, dinner lasted a little longer than expected, and we were going to arrive at the theater right at 7:00, which is what time the movie started. If you know Tim, you know that he's one of those "If you're not 5 minutes early you're late" people; so his undies were already in a bunch. So when we got there, we strategically split up: one getting the tickets, one getting the movie snacks. To our surprise, when we walked into the theater at 7:05 the previews hadn't started yet. We were intrigued, but we thought maybe that's how movie theaters do it now. Another five minutes go by and Tim decides he needs to go to the bathroom before the movie starts. While he was gone, I thought, "Hm, I wonder if we might be in the wrong theater. Well, if I am, then Tim won't come back." But Tim did come back and at 7:15 the lights went down and the previews began. While they were going on, I did notice that they were fairly family oriented and Steve Carell heavy. Then, it was time for the feature presentation. The house dims to black and I settle in for 2 hours of enjoying George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Then, Steve Carell appears. We're in the wrong movie!!! We realize that we're about to see Evan Almighty. Crap! What do we do?! Do we climb over the other people in the row and make a break for it? Call over an usher and sucker punch them for directing us to the wrong theater? Start to make out to pass the time?

We decided to stay and watch the movie. It was cute, not too bad. I realized that no matter how much I pretend that I don't like Wanda Sykes, she does always make me laugh. So on Monday, when the box office receipts are announced for this past weekend, make sure you mentally adjust Ocean's 13's and Evan Almighty's numbers by $16.

I'm with Tim - five minutes early is right on time. The General doesn't agree with this philosophy, and it's a miracle we haven't needed couples counseling over it.

That's awesome that your daycare offers you extended care. And good for you for taking advantage of it!

Don't be too amazed, it is $20 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. Plus we always run into other parents and there's Renee, sitting at the bar with strange men on either side and a 64oz. plum margarita in front of her.
