The Boys of Summer

Special bonus to anyone who can name the son in this picture.

Since the beginning of baseball season the boys have become increasingly interested in baseball. They want to watch the Sox and play in the yard every day. When we watch the Sox, the boys constantly ask who is up to bat or pitching. They can now recognize most everyone on the team and they have decided that Jim Thome is their favorite player. Carlos Quentin is a close second and Alexi Ramirez and Jermaine Dye are probably tied for third. Sammy actually corrected Benny on how to pronounce Pierzynski. Sammy has thrown 20 minute tantrums over the Sox having a day off and watching the Cubs does not appease him. One night while I was working, Renee tried the Cubs game to no avail and had to settle for ESPN News to settle Sammy down. Benny was heard saying "Mommy, I wish our family could be Cub fans." I think he said it just because the Sox weren't on, but I washed his mouth out with soap to be on the safe side.

I came up with this awesome backstop after we finally lost a ball behind the pile of dirt under the deck. Pretty attractive wouldn't you say? We take turns batting, catching and pitching. Usually Renee or I are in charge of pitching. Believe it or not, the boys don't have very good control.... yet. I had to come up a rule that if either of the boys strike out three times in a row they have to hit off the tee. They didn't like that rule at first until I explained that Jim Thome hits off a tee for practice. Well if Jim Thome does it then the boys are happy to try too. I hope he never jumps off a cliff. After the picture above was taken and it was Sammy's turn to bat, he refused to bat until Benny turned his hat around.

You can see above that Benny bats left-handed just like his old man. Sammy has an inside-out swing like his old man. Benny likes his fastball high and over the meat of the plate while Sammy prefers his pitches low and outside. So on the baseball field their similarities stop with their stunning good looks. It won't be long now until they are climbing our back fence to go play in their first little league game.

Good idea for the backstop! It's about time we got some new pictures! :) It's funny how so into baseball they are at such a young age...and knows the players..geez! Cute!

My first instinctive guess was Sammy for the picture. But the haircut makes him look like Benny. Since the crocks were red in the other pictures, I'm going with Sammy.

Cute blog. I'm amazed at how much the boys like the south-siders. And I'm pretty sure Benny expressed his desire to be a Cubs fan because his Super cool aunts and cousins are also Cubs fans.

its a close call on the picture with tim. i want to say benny purely because the legs in this picture look way too long to be sammy's. can you post a few more pictures? the boys look like twins in the one of them together - its freaking me out. i need to see another one of them together to confirm how old they are.

P.S. THIS is a what a blog post should be - pictures and adorable stories. Thanks Tim!
