Every Sunday during Mass, for some reason the cantor walks from one side of the altar (where she has a working microphone) to the other side of the altar (where there is another microphone) to sing the Responsorial Psalm. On her way over, she always stops and bows in front of the tabernacle. For those of you who are not Catholic, the consecrated hosts, which are the Body of Christ, are kept in the tabernacle. The tabernacle looks like a fancy box with doors.
On Sunday, Benny asked why she always stops and bows and I responded, "because Jesus is in that special box." The answer made perfect sense to him at the time.
Later on in the Mass, we were about to go up to Communion. Benny looked up, saw that the door of the tabernacle was open and the tabernacle was empty. He looked a little worried, and asked me,
"Mommy, did Jesus sneak out of the box?"
