As I hope you all read below, Sammy has hit his independent stage. With the light switches and filling his cup from the fridge and what not. That does not mean he has hit his independent thought stage. He is also mimicking his older brother more and more everyday. If the boys are in the tub and we ask the boys if they are ready for washing, Sammy acts as Benny's echo. Same pitch, same volume, same duration. Only Sammy starts a full second later. If the boys are playing on Mommy and Daddy's bed and Benny calls one of us in to see the silly way he flops face down on bed, Sammy will be sure to carefully watch and copy the best he can the falling and flailing that Benny has demonstrated.
The other night while the boys were sitting down to a fine meal of chicken nuggets, corn and apple sauce, Renee and I were in the living room discussing what goodies we would be enjoying for dinner. I think we were on our fifth go around of "I don't care, whatever you want is fine" when Benny appeared from around the corner walking backwards. It wasn't quite a moon walk, but he was gliding along pretty well. As we started to ask Benny what the heck he was doing, here comes Sammy walking backwards from the kitchen in front of the television. His ear to ear grin was just classic. You can always tell he's waiting for the exact reaction that Benny received. Renee and I are always happy to oblige. We probably even turn it up a little for Sammy.
Here is my question. Is it bad for us to show more praise to Sammy for his mimicking? It's just so darn cute when he does it. When will he start coming up with his own silly routines? Please share your stories. I'm pretty sure if you are reading this you probably have two kids who are pretty close in age. If you don't have kids, just add a comment about how jealous you are that you don't live in our house of hilariousness.

i do not have children of my own clearly, so i couldn't say. however, i CAN say i am disapppinted there were no photos included in this post. bummer man, he delivers.
I love your boys' smiles. They would get them out of a lot of trouble at my house.
As for my experiences with our two, I haven't seen the copy-cat behavior yet. Punkin is her own woman, there's no doubt about that. She is blazing her own trail, one that is much less tame than that of her older sister. She's my risk taker and dare devil, God save us all.
Of course your boys are a little older than our girls, so maybe this will hit our house soon.
Trust me, those smiles get them out of a lot of trouble. Benny has the move when he brings his cheek to his shoulder and bats his eyelashes a little while looking at you out of the corners of his eyes. If he uses that in ten years, lock up your daughters.
Luci is always carefully watching and imitating Grace. She has gotten away from copying moves now though and is more interested in copying conversation. This is a bit more annoying. Something like this, "Mom, when are we going to ballet?" "After we eat lunch." Mom when are we going to ballet?" "After we eat lunch." Boring. Ken always laughed harder at Luci, I always have to be even. A mom and dad thing? Enjoy!
